Nedas Cholevinskas | “I'm happy to be here, it's a very healthy environment and I feel like I can improve a lot”.

The Surrey Scorchers announced on Thursday 8th February the signing of Nedas Cholevinskas onto their roster.

The talented 18-year-old Small forward who most recently played for Rytas Vilnius II in Lithuania and played a pivotal role last season in helping lead Barking Abbey to their fifth EABL title with 15.0PPG &, 7.8RPG. Nedas also went on to become Great Britain's U18s Men’s Player of The Year.

Cholevinskas is registered under the Surrey Scorchers franchise umbrella allowing him to play for both Surrey Scorchers BBL franchise and affiliate club Cobham Cobras.

‘We are delighted with Nedas joining our program,’ said Scorcher’s Head Coach, Lloyd Gardner.

‘He is a player who has proved himself as a high-level prospect though his play with the Great Britain Junior National teams and in the NBL.’

We asked Nedas for comment on his recent move to the Surrey Scorchers  “I'm happy to be here, it's a very healthy environment and I feel like I can improve a lot here”.

Surrey Scorchers and GB Basketball National team General Manager, Dan Clark, recently made a commitment to developing opportunities for young British talent here in the UK and stated in a previous interview “For young British players to reach the professional level, they feel like they only have one option which is to go overseas, but we need to change that mindset and offer a genuine alternative, which we’re aspiring towards here at Surrey”.

Hopefully with Dan Clark's outlook on the future of British Basketball and similar additions to other BBL rosters then maybe the UK can start reaping the benefits of the talent it produces.
